Photos You will need to make night forest effects
You have to make sure you have the following images for making night forest effects:
- A photo of a night forest.
- A photo of a lantern.
- A photo of a man. The full body of the man is preferable.
- A photo of a metal chain. Make sure the metal chain has a transparent background.
Let’s begin the night forest photo effect making:
Step 1: Open a photo of night forest in photoshop
- To do that, go to the “File” menu and select the “Open” option. Then, go to your image location and select your night forest image and then click on the “Open” button. Your night forest image will be opened in photoshop afterward.
Step 2: Open a picture of a man and insert it in the main file
- Go to the “File” menu and select the “Open” option. Then, go to your image location and select the man’s image and then click on the “Open” button. Your image will be opened in photoshop afterward.
- Now, we will only copy the man portion and insert it in our main photo. To do this, you can use either the lasso tool or the quick selection tool or pen tool. So, go to the left side’s tools panel, and select the “Quick selection tool”. Now, brush over the man. You will see that selection is selecting the area automatically. If you see that you have over-selected the area, press & hold the “ALT” button and then brush over the over-selected areas.
- After making the selection, press “CTRL+J” from the keyboard. Selected part will be copied in a new layer “Layer 1”
- Now, go to the left side’s tools panel, and select the “Move tool”. Now, click & hold the man’s photo and drag to the main file. A new layer “Layer 2” will be created. Rename this man image “Layer 2” as “Man”.
- Increase or decrease the size of the man’s photo, press “CTRL+T”, then click & drag the corner’s handler and drag it outward to increase or drag inward to decrease the size. Then press “Enter”.
- If the man’s image is shiny, decrease the light using the “Curves” option. Go to the layer panel, click on the “Man” layer, then click on the “Create new fill or adjustment layer” button from the bottom of the layer panel and then select the “Curves” option. A “curves” panel will appear. From there, click on the “The adjustment affects all layers below (click to clip to layer)” button from the bottom of the panel, then adjust the color. A new curves layer “Curves 1” will be created.
- Now, we will adjust the color balance. So, go to the layer panel, click on the “Curves 1” layer, then click on the “Create new fill or adjustment layer” and select the “Color balance” option. Color balance panel will appear. From there, click on the “The adjustment affects all layers below (click to clip to layer)” button from the bottom of the levels panel. Then slide the “Yellow” color slider towards the “Magenta” slightly, that means slide it to the left side. A new color balance layer “Color Balance 1” will be created.
Step 3: Open a picture of lantern and insert it in the main file
- Go to the “File” menu and select the “Open” option. Then, go to your image location and select the lantern’s image and then click on the “Open” button. Your image will be opened in photoshop afterward.
- Now, we will only copy the lantern portion and insert it in our main photo. To do this, you can use either the lasso tool or the quick selection tool. So, go to the left side’s tools panel, select the “Polygon lasso tool” and make a selection path on the edge of the lantern and join with the starting point.
- After making the selection, press “CTRL+J” from the keyboard. Selected part will be copied in a new layer “Layer 1”
- Now, go to the left side’s tools panel, and select the “Move tool”. Now, click & hold the lanterns photo and drag to the main file. A new layer “Layer 1” will be created. Rename this lantern image “Layer 1” as “Lantern”.
- Increase or decrease the size of the lantern’s photo, press “CTRL+T”, then click & drag the corner’s handler and drag it outward to increase or drag inward to decrease the size. Then press “Enter”.
- Now, we will shine the light portion of the lantern. To do this, create a new layer above the “Lantern” layer. Go to the layer panel, select the “Lantern” layer, then click on the “Create a new layer” button from the bottom of the layer panel. A new layer “Layer 1” will be created.
- Now, go to the left side’s tools panel, select the “Brush tool” and set the foreground color yellow or light red. Then, go to the top bar/option bar and set the opacity between 60% to 70%. Now, brush on the glass of the lantern and a little bit outside of the glass. After that, go to the layer panel and set the blend mode from “Normal” to “Hard light”. You will find the blend mode beside the opacity option in the layer panel.
Step 4: Open a picture of metal chain and insert it in the main file
- Go to the “File” menu and select the “Open” option. Then, go to your image location and select the chain’s image and then click on the “Open” button. Your image will be opened in photoshop afterward. Here, I have selected a chain photo with a transparent background.
- Now, go to the left side’s tools panel, and select the “Move tool”. Now, click & hold the chain’s photo and drag to the main file. A new layer “Layer 2” will be created. Rename this chain image “Layer 2” as “Chain”. Drag the “Chain” layer on top of all the layers.
- Increase or decrease the size of the chain’s photo, press “CTRL+T”, then click & drag the corner’s handler and drag it outward to increase or drag inward to decrease the size. Then, place the chain photo on top of the lantern and one end of the chain should touch the lantern. Then press “Enter”.
Step 5: Spread the light of the lantern on atmosphere and on the man
- First, spread the light of the lantern on the atmosphere. For that, create a new layer first below the “Man” layer. Go to the layer panel, select the background layer and then click on the “Create a new layer” button from the bottom of the layer panel. A new layer “Layer 2” will be created.
- Now, go to the left side’s tools panel, select the “Brush tool” and set the foreground color light red. Then, go to the top bar/option bar and set the opacity between 20% to 40%. Now, brush on the outside atmosphere of the lantern. After that, go to the layer panel and set the opacity between 20% to 40%. You will get a soft look of the light spreaded on the atmosphere.
- Now, go to the “Filter” menu, then go to the “Blur” option and select the “Gaussian blur” option. A window will pop up. Now, set the radius as per your preference.
- Now, spread the light of the lantern on the atmosphere. For that, create a new layer first above the “Man” layer. Go to the layer panel, select the “Color balance 1” layer and then click on the “Create a new layer” button from the bottom of the layer panel. A new layer “Layer 3” will be created.
- Now, go to the left side’s tools panel, select the “Brush tool” and set the foreground color light-red. Then, go to the top bar/option bar and set the opacity between 20% to 40%. Now, brush on the left side portion of the man’s image which is near the lantern. After that, go to the layer panel and set the opacity between 20% to 40%. You will get a soft look of the light spreaded on the atmosphere. Then right click on the “Layer 3” layer and select the “Create clipping mask” option.
