Step 1: Open Your Photo in Photoshop

First of all, you have to insert your photo in photoshop. To do this, go to the “File” menu and select the “Open” option. Then, go to your image location and select your image and then click on the “Open” button.

Step 2: Duplicate the Background Layer

To duplicate the layer, go to the layer panel, right click on the background layer, select the “Duplicate layer” and click on the “OK” button. Or, select the background layer, then go to the “Layer” menu, select the “Duplicate layer” option and then click on the “OK” button. Or, click & hold the background layer and drag it towards the “Create a new layer” button from the bottom. Your background layer will be duplicated.

Step 3: Flip the Image

Method 1:

  • After duplicating the layer, go to the “Edit” menu, then go to the “Transform” option.
  • From the transform option, you will see lots of options there. So, to flip the image, you can choose any one of the “Flip horizontal” and “Flip vertical” options.
  • That’s it.

Method 2:

  • After duplicating the layer, go to the “Edit” menu and select the “Free transform” option to activate the free transform for the image. Or, alternatively, press “CTRL+T” from the keyboard to activate the free transform for the image.
  • Now, go to the option bar or top bar, you will see various size amounts and measurements. So, if you want to flip the image horizontally, go to the “W” field, remove the amount and type “-100%”, your image will be flipped horizontally. If you want to flip the image vertically, go to the “H” field, remove the amount and type “-100%”, your image will be flipped vertically. Here, “W” is horizontal scale and “H” is vertical scale.
  • That’s it.

Method 3:

  • After duplicating the layer, go to the “Edit” menu and select the “Free transform” option to activate the free transform for the image. Or, alternatively, press “CTRL+T” from the keyboard to activate the free transform for the image.
  • Then, right click on the photo, you will see various options there. So, to flip the image, you can choose any one of the “Flip horizontal” and “Flip vertical” options.
  • That’s it.

Method 4:

  • You do not have to duplicate the image for this method. Go to the “Image” menu, then go to the “Image rotation” option.
  • From the image rotation option, you will see lots of options there. So, to flip the image, you can choose any one of the “Flip canvas horizontal” and “Flip canvas vertical” options.
