Step 1: Insert Your Photo in Photoshop
First of all, insert a photo in photoshop. To do this, go to the “File” menu and select the “Open” option. Then, go to your image location and select your image and then click on the “Open” button.
Step 2: Make Selection on Cloth
- Now, go to the left side’s tool panel and select the “Quick selection tool”. You will find this tool in the “Magic wand tool” section. You can also use the lasso tools to make the selection.
- Now, make a selection around the cloth you want to change the color.
- Then, go to the “Select” menu and choose the “Select and mask” option. This option is creating the mask upon selection. So, if you see that any part of the image is not selected or over selected, adjust the selection. If some parts are not selected, click with the mouse on those parts. If some parts are over selected, press & hold the “ALT” button from your keyboard and click with the mouse on those parts. After selection is done, scroll down the right side’s panel, go to the “Output settings” section, and set the “Output to” option as “New layer with layer mask” option. After that, click on the “OK” button.
- Selected areas will be masked with a new layer afterward. Now, make the background layer visible to see the changes.
Step 3: Change Cloth Color
- Now, go to the layer panel, look at the new layer you have just created, you will see that there are two thumbnails, one is the colored image and the other one is black and white,. Now, click on the colored thumbnail of the new layer you have created earlier and then click on the “New color fill or adjustment layer” button from the bottom and then select the “Hue/Saturation” option.
- You will see that a new “Hue/Saturation 1” layer is created. So, right click on the “Hue/Saturation 1” layer and select the “Create clipping mask” option. Now slide the color sliders of the hue/saturation panel to change color.
- If you want to do the color balance, go to the layer panel, click on the eye icon of the “Hue/Saturation 1” layer to invisible it, click on the “White” frame of the “Hue/Saturation 1” layer and then click on the “New color fill or adjustment layer” button from the bottom. Then select the “Color balance” option. You will see that a new “Color balance 1” layer is created. So, right click on the “Color balance 1” layer and select the “Create clipping mask” option. Now slide the color sliders of the color balance panel to do the change balance.
- If you want to use solid color, go to the layer panel, click on the eye icon of the “Color balance 1” layer to invisible it, click on the “White” frame of the “Color Balance 1” layer and then click on the “New color fill or adjustment layer” button from the bottom. Then select the “Solid color” option. A color palette will appear, so select color with the color picker and click on the “OK” button. You will see that a new “Color Fill 1” layer is created. Now, in the layer panel, click on the blending options which is on the right side of the “Opacity” option and select the “Color” option. Then, right click on the “Color Fill 1” layer and select the “Create clipping mask” option.
- Now, in the layer panel, go to the “Color Fill 1” layer, you will see that there are two frames, one is the color and the other one is white. So, double click on the colored frame and change color however you want.
